Travis Air Force Base Seeks Hometown Heroes
Travis Air Force Base will be hosting an air show this year entitled “Thunder over the Bay” on March 30-31, 2019. We, at Travis Air Force Base, wanted to recognize some of the extraordinary people in our local community by making the theme of the air show ‘Honoring our Hometown Heroes.’
We know that many police officers, firefighters, nurses, teachers and simply ordinary citizens are working within their neighborhoods, cities, and counties to make them safe and enhancing our everyday lives. We wanted to honor our Hometown Heroes by providing some exclusive opportunities to fly aboard our aircraft and some of our guest aircraft.
Please note that people ineligible for this program include, but are not limited to: active-duty military members, elected and appointed officials, unit honorary commanders, newscasters, reporters, board directors, or other individuals who have the ability to garner publicity in their own rights.
We are currently accepting applications and nominations throughout the month of January, the application process will closeout on Jan. 31. The opportunities we are looking to provide include the following:
The United States Air Force Thunderbirds and 60th Air Mobility Wing Public Affairs office would like to offer an incentive flight for one Hometown Hero to fly in the cockpit with the USAF Thunderbirds. We are looking to fly an individual who has made a large impact on his or her community; this could be either through one significant event or through a multitude of actions that’s go above and beyond the norm.
*Must meet all medical requirements listed on application and be available March 28 and 29.
The U.S. Army Golden Knights and 60th Air Mobility Wing Public Affairs office would like to offer an incentive flight for 10 individuals to fly with the Golden Knights and watch them perform during the air show.
*Must meet all medical requirements listed on application and be available March 28 and 29
The 60th Air Mobility Wing Public Affairs office would like to offer an additional Hometown Hero flight opportunities on a C-17 Globemaster III, which will be performing a training mission over the bay area and will include views of the bay throughout the flight. This flight has more space than the other two opportunities, however, it will be on a first-come first-serve basis.
*Must have flexible availability as the dates are TBD during the month of March.
The 60th Air Mobility Wing Public Affairs office will also have a Meet-and-Greet Hometown Heroes booth during the Air Show. This opportunity will be for those selected to meet some of the attendees.
Applications contain medical requirements that must be met for each of the flight options.
