Suisun City Flood Walk
Sustainable Solano, in partnership with the city of Suisun City, is launching its first Flood Walks in Suisun City. These engaging walking tours will give local residents an opportunity to learn about future flood risks from rising sea levels and more severe storm events, what can be done to protect homes and businesses, and how to build a community's environmental resilience. The walks will also start the conversation around the development of Suisun City's Flood Resilience Action Plan. The 1.5-hour tours take place in Suisun City’s future Resilient Neighborhood and give participants a chance to learn about the city’s connection to the Suisun Marsh and the San Francisco Bay, how stormwater is routed through the city, and what areas are threatened by flooding as early as 2030. The tour also points out disparities and possible solutions, such as considering where and how new development is built, mitigation strategies such as curb cuts and rain gardens, and the importance of community connection in addressing environmental hazards. Public Flood Walks will be on June 12, June 26 and July 17.
